Calm Before The Storm Masashi Hamauzu

Here's my transcription of Calm Before The Storm for piano (and maybe violin) of Masashi Hamauzu.

Sanzui (2011) - Ka - Masashi Hamauzu

This piece is extremely difficult to play. The mid section's left hand is especially hard because it has a melody of its own. And if your left hand can't play fast notes, you're stuck. Together with that, your right hand is jumping from left to right, above and under your left arm.

Then there are the fast right hand passages in the beginning of the piece. Not to mention the huge jumps in both hands... Not a piece for beginners.

This performance right here is sight reading, I just transcribed it. The piece reminds me of Debussy and even a bit of Rebecca Clarke.

This is the Amalfitana Theme Song.


I love this song! It's one of the most mature Hamauzu pieces I've ever heard. If you know Hamauzu, you will notice that he used themes of Saga Frontier II (Main Theme), Unlimited Saga (Soaring Wings), FFX (The Travel Agency) and even Vielen Dank in this piece.

Will certainly be incorporated in my repertoire. I finally have some pieces to play on concerts.

And yes, I forgot to play the last note, but it gives a more open ending.

Sony "α" CLOCK - Theme song of Iguazu - Masashi Hamauzu

I love this piece, it's so swift and has these little accents that give the piece a nice touch. It's a very difficult piece to play because of the fast notes in the right hand.
